Briggs & Stratton Air Filter Covers

Find Briggs & Stratton air filter covers for compatible small engines with missing, cracked, or poorly sealing housings. Select the proper cover by engine model and air cleaner design, not by exterior appearance alone with confidence.

Air Filter Cover Versus Air Filter Element

The air filter element traps airborne debris; the cover retains and protects that element within the air cleaner housing. A damaged cover can affect retention and sealing, even when the filter itself is still serviceable.

• Use the engine model, type, and code to confirm the air cleaner assembly.
• Compare cover shape, retaining clips or screws, latch placement, and seating surfaces.
• Check whether the listing includes knobs, fasteners, seals, or only the cover.

When to Replace an Air Cleaner Cover

Broken tabs, stripped attachment points, cracks, or warping may prevent the cover from holding the filter correctly. Check the housing base and the filter seal too: replacing the lid alone will not correct a damaged mating surface.

Inspection and Maintenance Tips

Remove debris from the housing during inspection and make sure the filter is seated before closing the cover. Never operate with an unsecured lid or missing filter, especially in dusty conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will any cover fit if the filter is the same size?

No. Cover fastening points and housing profiles can differ even when air filter elements have similar dimensions.

Air Filter Cover vs. Air Filter

• Air filter cover: Holds and protects the filter in its housing. Replace it for a cracked cover, missing latch, or damaged mounting.
• Air filter element: Traps airborne dirt. Replace it when dirty, damaged, or due for service.
• Pre-cleaner: Provides additional debris capture on supported assemblies. Replace it when dirty or deteriorated.

When selecting a cover, match the engine's air-cleaner housing and attachment features. An air filter cover is not a substitute for the filter element itself.
